Overview
Carbon steel plate is a product family, not a complete material specification. Start with the design requirements and exact grade under a stated product standard and edition. Structural fabrication, pressure equipment and shipbuilding require their applicable material approval; a general plate description does not establish suitability for all three. State thickness, width, length, dimensional tolerances and delivery condition on each order line.
For cut parts, add a drawing, edge preparation, flatness, squareness and cutting tolerances. Describe forming, welding or heat treatment when these affect material acceptance. Specify surface condition, any coating system and protection separately. Agree the material certificate, heat identity, sampling and any impact or ultrasonic testing under the governing specification. Include quantity, destination, packing and lifting limits. Review alternative grades and processing conditions separately before accepting a quotation.
