State the edition, PSL1 or PSL2, complete grade designation and delivery condition, together with the seamless or welded route permitted by the project. Do not infer pressure rating or service suitability from X42 alone.

List outside diameter, nominal wall, length, tolerances, ends and coating by item. Include operating medium and project requirements for toughness, sour service, hydrostatic tests and nondestructive examination where applicable. A change to another grade or manufacturing route requires the purchaser’s technical approval. Confirm document scope, quantity, packing and delivery terms with the quotation.

FAQ

Is X42 alone a complete pipe order?

No. Specify the API 5L edition, complete grade designation, PSL and delivery condition, plus the permitted route, dimensions and acceptance requirements. Confirm the exact marking and certificate designation against the ordered edition rather than shortening every order to X42.

Can X42 replace Grade B or another X grade?

A grade change requires review against the design code and project specification. Grade alone does not establish allowable pressure, weldability, toughness or service suitability. Obtain the purchaser’s technical approval before changing grade, wall thickness or manufacturing route.

Does PSL2 establish suitability for sour service?

PSL2 is a product specification level. It does not by itself establish suitability for sour service. Provide the service specification and any additional chemistry, hardness, toughness, HIC or SSC requirements, including test methods, sampling and acceptance criteria.

Which inspection documents belong in the order?

Specify the certificate type, heat and pipe identification, dimensional and mechanical results, and applicable hydrostatic and nondestructive examination records. Add coating records and witness points where required. Document availability and third-party involvement must be confirmed with the quotation.
