Overview
Use this seamless steel pipe overview to define the order family; the carbon steel seamless pipe page gives the focused carbon-steel comparison. Seamless describes a manufacturing route, not a grade or pressure rating. Start with the project design code, service conditions and governing product standard. ASTM A106, ASTM A53 Type S and an EN 10216 designation require their own grades and order conditions; do not treat the names as interchangeable. State outside diameter and wall thickness, or the complete NPS and schedule designation with its dimensional standard.
Add length, tolerances, delivery condition, end finish and the required surface protection. Identify hydrostatic and non-destructive testing requirements, acceptance criteria and heat traceability in the inspection plan. Mechanical, boiler and pressure duties need their applicable specification, rather than a general seamless label. Send each order line with quantity, destination, inspection documents and packing requirements; any alternative material or welded route requires separate approval.
