Start with the furniture part and forming route
Cabinet panels, folded enclosures and tube-frame strip place different demands on cold rolled steel. Specify SPCC with the applicable JIS G 3141 edition and describe bending, punching, welding and subsequent painting. SPCC is not automatically equivalent to a drawing grade or another standard’s grade. Where tensile or forming guarantees are needed, state the required designation and test requirements rather than assuming them from the SPCC name.
Specify temper and paint preparation together
Confirm the complete temper and surface designation under the ordered standard. Ask for the chemical, mechanical or hardness results needed for the part. Higher hardness is not automatically better for bending, and an approved trial may be needed for demanding geometry.
State dull or bright appearance, oiling condition and critical-face requirements. The oil film must suit storage protection and the buyer’s degreasing and paint preparation. Agree acceptance criteria for rust, scratches and other surface defects; appearance requirements should identify the visible face and the approved sample where needed. Welding and grinding preparation are separate from the supplied coil finish.
Include these fields in the RFQ
- JIS G 3141 edition, SPCC designation, temper and required tests.
- Thickness and tolerance class, mother-coil width and edge condition.
- For slit strip: finished width, tolerance, burr and camber limits.
- Coil ID, maximum unit weight and any cut-sheet length or flatness requirement.
- Surface, oiling, painting process, quantity and destination port.
- Moisture protection, edge guards, markings, required delivery date and EN 10204 3.1 certificate when specified.
Check the supplied form before acceptance
A mother coil and slit strip are different order forms. Confirm that finished width, edges, coil weight and diameter fit the tube or forming line. Do not use a typical mill size as an approved capability or a default order input. For sheet panels, include cut length and flatness instead of leaving them implied.
Match coil or heat identification to the agreed certificate and packing list. Check dimensions, temper evidence, surface and oiling against the order. Specify inspection sampling, packing orientation and how pre-shipment records will be delivered. Agree any third-party inspection before the order is released.
